Brett speaks of his SU!

my name is brett fish anderson and i never got to experience SU from the point of view of an attendee but always as a leader. from as early as grade 10 [standard 8 back then] i was part of leading on holiday clubs and since then i have taken part in weekend and weeklong camps, go-camps, froggy pond camps, holiday clubs, beach missions, staff training, teaching videos and one time i even played Father Christmas for a programme SU ran at Faraway. So i've pretty much done most things Scripture Union has to offer. And me best memories from all of that would have to be the relationships I have made with people along the way. Some for a short term but many for years and years and years and still going strong. It was definitely a case of both extremes cos i certainly butted heads with some leaders along the way, but some of my favourite people in life come from sharing a weekend camp or a school meeting or some other SU-related experience.

For me, if i look back on my time with SU the highlight would definitely be my involvement with October Leadership where I must have been a leader on close to ten camps, speaking at about 7 of them. One of the easiest camps to speak at because everyone comes to camp with a hunger and a focus on growing in God and reaching their school [altho amazingly year after year we saw people on that camp make first time commitments because some school had misread the invite and just sent a bunch of 'leaders' along - God works in mysterious ways] Seeing the potential and realised impact - and especially looking a lot of people today and where they are in life serving in their churches or pioneering ministries across the world - of those weekend camps excites me and thrills me and makes me really hope that it will never be allowed to simply slide into oblivion. One on ones, group times and counselling sessions as well as seeing God work so deeply during ministry times and seeing the change in people from Friday night to Sunday lunch time will remain wedged in my memory banks for all time.

as unfortunately will be the superman, mission impossible and addams family graces i have endured over 100 times each...duh duh duh duh [click click]
