The Big Band Theory!

An explosion of sound coming from a variety of instruments.Together they create a music transporting us to lyrics and rhytyms bringing back great memories. The tapping of feet and the soothing vibe will add to the ultimate aim!

An aim to bring together people from various backgrounds and who have different experiences of ONE organisation with TWO letters! Just as the lyrics and the rhytyms will bring back memories so OUR experiences of Camps and Holiday Clubs will be celebrated in this soothing vibe!

Scripture Union (SU) have been creating lasting memories for children and young people for over 87 years! NOW we calling on those of the 70's 80's 90's and the present to come nd enjoy live jazz nd delicious food and at the same time contribute financially so that we as the SU Family can go on and create more music in introducing young South Africans with Jesus the Bible and the Church! This has been the success of SU for all these years. You and all the relationships YOU have built and maintained.

The Big Band will be there @ His People Church @ N1 City. The Theory is that YOU invite some of your SU friends and family and join us on the 4th of June 2011. To make a difference and assisting SU to take more children to camps and have more holiday clubs, we asking R150 for the evening. Time 4 till 8 so don't be late. We want to fill the venue with 500 people. Will you be there? To book YOUR place email sedrico@su.org.za or call our office 021 689 8331

Holiday Club 1995

I met my husband at SU Holiday Club @ Marsh Memorial in the June of 1995. I arrived early so got the job of writing out name tags for people and when I spelt his name, Shaun and not Sean he said “you spelt it right” and I was smitten.... I know that’s not the reason we go to Holiday Club but I guess God had some other plans that holiday. We started dating in the August and have been married for nearly 10 years, with 3 gorgeous kids. As someone once commented SU stands for “Soon United”....

I gave my life to Christ when I was 12 years old...

Now I am a Senior Citizen...

A letter our staff worker received when he raised funds for a leadership project for Grade 7 Prefects:

Dear Sedrico,

I was so touched to read about your great desire to organise special camps for training youngsters “ to build them personally so they can become role models” I just praise and thank the Lord for you and for those who are supporting you in your efforts to give these youngsters a wonderful holiday, in that way bringing them to know the Lord and to experience His love in their lives.

I came to know the Lord when I was 12 years old-at an SU camp out in the country somewhere outside of Robertson. Since then I have never looked back and long, long ago I lost count of the number of camps I attended and after my schooling became a camp leader- over and over again. Now I am a senior Citizen- (very senior smiley face*) and am rejoicing to ‘discover’ Sedrico-serving the Lord with such commitment and passion to introduce these youngsters to the Lord Jesus Christ.

I shall be praying for you and your team and, with you, I am trusting the Lord to bring about transformation- spiritual transformation, in these precious young lives.

I enclose R200 towards this programme. May you be richly blessed in your ministry

Yours sincerely in His Love,
Florajoan V. Meintjies

Brett speaks of his SU!

my name is brett fish anderson and i never got to experience SU from the point of view of an attendee but always as a leader. from as early as grade 10 [standard 8 back then] i was part of leading on holiday clubs and since then i have taken part in weekend and weeklong camps, go-camps, froggy pond camps, holiday clubs, beach missions, staff training, teaching videos and one time i even played Father Christmas for a programme SU ran at Faraway. So i've pretty much done most things Scripture Union has to offer. And me best memories from all of that would have to be the relationships I have made with people along the way. Some for a short term but many for years and years and years and still going strong. It was definitely a case of both extremes cos i certainly butted heads with some leaders along the way, but some of my favourite people in life come from sharing a weekend camp or a school meeting or some other SU-related experience.

For me, if i look back on my time with SU the highlight would definitely be my involvement with October Leadership where I must have been a leader on close to ten camps, speaking at about 7 of them. One of the easiest camps to speak at because everyone comes to camp with a hunger and a focus on growing in God and reaching their school [altho amazingly year after year we saw people on that camp make first time commitments because some school had misread the invite and just sent a bunch of 'leaders' along - God works in mysterious ways] Seeing the potential and realised impact - and especially looking a lot of people today and where they are in life serving in their churches or pioneering ministries across the world - of those weekend camps excites me and thrills me and makes me really hope that it will never be allowed to simply slide into oblivion. One on ones, group times and counselling sessions as well as seeing God work so deeply during ministry times and seeing the change in people from Friday night to Sunday lunch time will remain wedged in my memory banks for all time.

as unfortunately will be the superman, mission impossible and addams family graces i have endured over 100 times each...duh duh duh duh [click click]

Going Live!

This is our first post and please do communicate with us on how the Scripture Union Western Cape Ministry has impacted your life.

We hear stories of people attending camp like 50 years ago and today are prominent in their spheres of work. SUWC build programs so that people can be challenged with the Living Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Our aim is still to introduce children and young people to Jesus, the Bible and the Church!
